Arctic Circle Crossing
Cross the Arctic Circle, step into Nunavut and earn your certificate!
Calling all Beaver fans and true lovers of flight - this one is for you! Here is a secret: Yellowknife is actually sub-Arctic! So let's fix that. This is a full day of real bush flying: more than 600 miles (975 km) and close to six hours in the air. You will want to love the rumble of a radial engine and the view from a floatplane window, because there is a lot of time in the saddle today!
Don't worry, we won't keep you buckled in the whole way. We make a couple of stops to get out and stretch your legs, including a landing at the Acasta River - home of the oldest known rock on Earth. But make no mistake: our mission is the Arctic Circle! We cross 66°33′ North and press on to beautiful Kamut Lake, right on the border of the Northwest Territories and Nunavut.
We land and beach on the northern shore - inside Nunavut! - at a site where archaeologists found 3,500-year-old stone tools in 1955. Hike the eskers, enjoy a picnic lunch on the tundra and take home your very own Certificate of Arctic Circle Crossing. Few people on Earth ever stand here! Then it is back in the saddle for the long, scenic flight home.
One last friendly reminder: did we mention this is a very long day of flying? Our trusty Beaver does not come equipped with a lavatory - but the beauty of floats is that we can always pull over! Plan your morning coffee accordingly.
